"A place to Chill Out & Relax with Nature & Friends"
It's basically a very nice place to be here to chill out and relax with friends. We stayed in the rooms which has no air-conditioning and we just doze off with the sound of the wave. Do not forget to get a glimpse of Batu Luang (the Sabah Apostle) during sunset as it will be gone in the future just like the 12 Apostles in Australia.
"Rustic Beach Getaway"
A simple rustic getaway from the city. Basic accommodation but simply amazing. View was absolutely amazing from the basic private chalet. I love the open shower concept facing the sea. Definitely will be back.
"Fantastic beach retreat"
We were only able to get here because Max helped us sort out logistics. He is a lovely, kind, welcoming host and he has a beautiful place right on the beach. The accommodation was very basic but clean and anyway we spent most of our time lying on one of the many surfaces provided to relax outside. Mary is a fantastic cook and every single meal we had here was superb! The beach is really quiet and clean which is a huge plus in this part of the world. Overall if you are fine without a luxurious bed then I'd definitely recommend visiting this quiet beach paradise. PS... Being your tea tree oil...Bugs bite.
Wanted a 1-day getaway and Kuala Penyu, 2 hrs drive from KK was the choice. Nagapuri is basic, you'd have to bring your own toiletries and yes - towel! Towel is provided but so not absorbent. If you're one of those who need fluffy pillows and mattresses where you can't feel the wooden board underneath you, maybe Nagapuri is not for you. If you're looking for long stretch of beautiful white sandy deserted beach right at your doorstep (no climbing down flights of steps like it's neighbour), most friendly and relaxed host, a room with its own bathroom & toilet with 3 meals thrown in & all the make-your-own beverage in the kitchen at a modest rate, this little place is is a gem. Priorities!
Friendly, relaxing and simply beautiful. The beaches are clean, the rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful... And the food is just superb!!! I love this place. Would highly recommend it !! I plan to return as soon as I can!!
"Relax and time flies so slow"
You can check in after 10am, book a room in the longhouse or stay in the VIP house up on the hill. The sound of the beach waves helps you, as it has helped us, to quiet down our mind. For RM100 a day per person, you have a room, main meals, and most importantly is the view and ambience. Once, Max, the owner, got us fresh stingray fish for dinner, they were really really fresh! Tiger beer is at RM5 per can, anytime you want. If you wake up early and you want breakfast early, you can cook ur own breakfast, Max is fine with that. Jogging, exercising, beach volleyball and futsal are things you can do there. When we were there, it was really a relaxing time. Just sit down and watch the beach right in front of the longhouse, drink something, eat something, read book, colouring (the famous Rainforest colouring book), play ball, swimming etc, everything on your own time. There is a family working for Max, Rangga, his wife, and his 3 sons and a daughter, under 10years olf. All of them are very friendly, if you have time you can teach the kids to read and count or read stories to them, please do so. They are eager to learn. For me, at least 2 nights here will help you refreshen up for your usual routines again.
"Beautiful & Awesome price"
I've stayed here more than 3 times now and I still love it. First time staying in d private chalet and really its really lovely to stay with your honey next to you. Clean and relaxing place. Really a best place to chill, away from city, and to be closer to nature. Sounds of the beach waves are the best! Could not ask for more, the price is d best with 3 meals included.
"chill and thrill - u wanna stay here!"
head south from KK and enjoy the beach, the sunsets and calm water; the best place on borneo! you step onto the beach straight from your room unless you choose the top ultimate en-suit with a roofdeck (that requires climbing few sets of steps, but is the best)! the place serves best for larger groups and the owner offers pickups from the busstop; it is located away from the rundown "downtown", but u can get some good food there! u bet i will be there! check out the eco design in the top showers!
"Beautiful beach, great guesthouse"
I ended up in Nagapuri because I had friends telling me about it. I did not know what to expect at first, since they were just saying that it’s like that „secret beach location no one has ever heard of“. So here is what I found. This is not five star accommodation at all. There are basic rooms with en-suite outdoor toilets, there is electricity, running water, the most beautiful sandy private beach, plenty and delicious food and a bunch of amazing people there. Max, the owner of the place, makes sure you have a really good time and really knows how to have a good time. The family (4 kids) that looks after the house is lovely and the food, as mentioned above, is a true delight. You don’t have to worry about any meal since all your food is included in the price. If you still want to snack between meal time you just climb a tree and grab your own coconut. There is not much to do during the day apart from working on your tan, or playing games. No TV or W-Lan. But Max will help you to find out on how to explore the area and lots of stuff can be organised. But if you are a laid back person, looking for a relaxing beach holiday and willing to turn off your phone for a while, this is the place for you. I am actually glad that this place can now be found on TripAdvisor and I hope many people will find their way to Max and his Nagapuri Beach Life.
"Great place to visit"
Private beach, 3 meals included, you can even ask for pick up and drop off! You can get sun tanned and enjoy the breeze with beers along! The workers are friendly, so does the owner. They also provide entertainments which cost extra. Such as rafting, go for probocis monkies and fireflies river cruise and may bring you for kuala penyu town tour! It's a nice place to destress.
"We had the whole beach and place all to ourself!"
We came with a managed expectation. The place is basic, simple and rustic. Basically everything you need, really. 3 meals is included so that you dont have to worry and think about that. We came with a very active 3 years old, he ran the beach, roll at the hallway and just being kid! Loved it! There were barely anybody else in the beach except for a small local family that was seen from a distant, taking a dip in the morning. This is the place where you escape for the weekend, glorious cycle of nap, snacks, swim, nap, and swim again. Keep it casual and you will loved this family run beach house. Max, the owner who also run the place is great! Interact enough but leave you doing your own stuff and it was so comfortable. I cannot wait to be back!
We stayed here for two nights to escape the hustle and bustle of Kota Kinabalu and it turned out to be exactly what we were hoping for! I was extremely impressed with the set up - a rustic beach shack right on the beach that's well maintained providing everything you need, including F&B (self serve + organised meals), comfortable shared space, a clean beach to yourself, and loads of shady trees. We stayed 1 night in the A/C room and 1 night in the Villa (same price), both were well kept, comfortable, and clean. The A/C room has hot water and is closer to the beach - but if you don't mind a cooler shower and expansive views, then I recommend staying in the villa where you are set away from all the other rooms with your own two-storey shack overlooking the ocean. Waking up and flying the drone over a calm ocean with a fresh sea breeze was rejuvenating. We will be back with friends next time! Thanks Max!
It is a great place to relax with few people around. You can listen to the waves of the sea, swim and walk on the beach. The "workaway" staff was very kind and helpful. The rooms are simple with wooden walls. Local food is included .
Max is an honest open-minded host. Nagapuri is a quiet place, nice to relax. The beach is clean and has some nice details, for example a few swings. The food was varied and delicious. We hope that Max think about our advices.
We enjoyed our stay at Max's place, he was very energetic, helpful and good man. The place is for people who want to escape the city and relax. The beach is clean and has fine white sand. You can enjoy long walks by the shore. There are swings as well for the kid in you. The food cooked and prepared by Mary was absolutely delicious. We had our private room, very simple and basic. Bring your own toiletries and snacks since the place is a bit far from the market. Don't forget to bring mosquito repellent as there might be some at night. Overall our stay was very good !
A great place to get away from the crowds, beaches where almost no one goes, where you can walk for hours and only meet fishermen going to sea. The food was amazing thanks to our friendly cook, probably the best food we tasted since we arrived in SE asia. Max makes sure you have everything you need. An early flight we had in KK was no problem, max got us a ride and we were there well in time. Great place overall and definite recommendation! Thanks Max and your friendly staff!
Fantastic one night stay with a group of friends ! Max is extremely friendly and hospitable - to die for beach ! Recommend to anyone visiting Sabah -;) food was also deliciously cooked , we will be back !
Cadre magnifique. Logement traditionnel donnant directement sur la plage. Sympathie et disponibilité de Mary et Max. Excellents plats Malaisiens préparés chaque jour par Mary. Nous y retournerons certainement .👍
Max and Mary are terrific people to stay with and look after you very well. The beach is stunning and virtually deserted. Worth being aware of the mosquitos and sand fleas. We didn't bring enough repellent and were chewed up by both pretty badly. The chalet is due to be sealed up, as it was open to the environment and bugs and birds could get in pretty easily. You've got a mosquito net but it's still a bit invasive. It's just worth being prepared for it before you come. Ear plugs too if you're a light sleeper. But I really liked the place and would recommend a few days here. The hosts are brilliant.
Max was a great host and I really enjoyed my stay at Naga Puri. The accommodation is simple but clean and given the amazing location I thought it offered great value for money. All of the food was amazing and was included in the price. The fresh fish was delicious! There isn't any WiFi but this wasn't a problem for me. The location is absolutely stunning. The beach is just beautiful and very clean in comparison to some of the beaches closer to Kota Kinabalu. There were hardly any other people on the beach which made my stay incredibly relaxing and waking up to the sound of the waves breaking each morning was perfect. Max was a great host and really made me feel welcome during my stay. He took me to a local market which was really interesting and on my last night turned off all of the lights so that we could see the stars. If I were in the area again then I would definitely return and would recommend it to others. It is really easy to get the bus to Kuala Penyu from Kota Kinabalu (RM15) and takes around two hours. Overall I had a great trip and would love to return, thank you Max!
Max was a great host, he went out of his way to make sure we got there. The location is wonderful, very scenic, quiet and literally on the beach. It is more of a swimming beach (no surf) and do prepare for all sorts of bugs. The facilities are very basic, but adequate for this kind of setting and very good value for money. The food was absolutely great! Thanks to Mary! We really had a good relaxing stay.
Beautiful beach location. It's a little buggy here with mosquitoes and sand flies, so bring your bug spray. Basic accommodation. Friendly staff. Nice meal.
This is like a small long-house built by Max right in front of the beach. The set up is very cool, basic accommodation but clean and comfy mattress, bed sheets and towel provided. You will sleep with the sound of ocean waves and see the sunset in the water. Price includes amazing home-made lunch and dinner, prepared right on the spot by Mary, an Indonesian woman. The beach is great but the food was the highlight of my trip! From KK Max can arrange transfer, or take the red express bus towards Menumbook (in Jalan Tugu, front of the park), but tell them to drop you in the '3 turtles' roundabout (Jalan Kuala Penyu; trip cost 15 MYR). Max can pick you up from there for some extra 10 MYR. Note there are cats, dogs and chickens. Take mosquito repellent, of course. It is not luxurious and no wifi, but its worth every penny. I highly recommend!
It's very simple and spartanic. Don't expect luxury. But it's directly at a white sand beach, wonderful for swimming and relaxing. Just far away from hectic civilization. The owner "Max" is very friendly and always trying to fulfill the needs of his guests. Hope we will be able to come back.
Max very relaxed host and has done a great job making the place appealing.
good host. there is a big private beach and very beautiful. the food is delicious. you can see the stars at night.
Very chilled and relaxed place! Great to have a rest!
We stayed with Max for 3 nights in August 2017. This was such a highlight or out trip. It's situated directly on a secluded beach, ideal for chilling out, swimming, reading a book, drinking beer and chatting with the family or other travellers. Max, his family, and friends who were there were all just so lovely. We spent a lot of our time chatting with John (Max's friend helping out while Max recovers from injury). These are genuinely great people. Very inquisitive and caring people who only want to see happy guests and make new friends. The food is amazing. Mary, the cook, makes lunch and dinner fresh every day. The portions are huge and the food is delicious. Vegetarian option available, delicious, and usually prepared for each meal just in case. The kitchen and all kitchen supplies (eggs, noodles, vegetables, cereal etc) are made available for breakfast and you make it yourself when it suits your schedule. Stay here, drink beer, play music, sing and smile. Highly recommended!
The staff is very friendly, food is good (especially dinners) and the surroundings are beautiful. A place to use as an exploration base for the area and to enjoy great proximity to the beach. On the negative side, rooms and amenities are extremely basic and almost run down: we found a lot of sand in our bed upon check in, no toilet door, no complete wall separation until the roof between rooms meaning guests staying in the next room may wake you up in the middle of the night if they are drunk, etc. Last but not least, beware of countless insects and jelly fish attacks. We suffered both (that happens into the wild...). All in all, we made it a great trip and experience by venturing around but the Airbnb itself was a sweet and sour experience.
Max's place is hidden in a very quiet corner of the world, by a main road connecting to other towns in Sabah. It's very suitable for a relaxing timeout. Food was prepared during the stay and was very delicious. No complaint there. I was very impressed by Max's courteousy in helping me whenever it is needed, when I was arranged to the wrong room and when my car got stuck in the sand. I had an enjoyable stay.
We booked the chalet but actually decided to stay in one of the newly competed rooms with aircon down in the main longhouse. Being sealed they are quiter than the open air rooms upstairs. They also have new mattresses. Previous review said there was no toilet door for the chalet, but there is. It's just open at the front to the get a view of the sea (no one can see in) and is separate from the chalet. Toilet doors are in all other rooms! The beach is really lovely and sea is warm and great for swimming. Max and his friend John are sociable hosts and Mary is a great cook. We arranged pick up / drop off with Max for a fee. Not a luxury hotel but you wake up to a beautiful view and are treated to the most stunning sunsets. The resident dogs are really sweet and love to walk with you along the beach. We had a really relaxing stay and would go back!
My second time at this awesome place. Will definitely come back.
We had an amazing stay. The stunning view and calm surrounding at the chalet makes an unforgettable experience. We also have to thank Flo and his wife for their eager efforts to show us and the other guests the luminescent algae at the beach despite the bad weather.
The location was just amazing. Right in front of the beach. The view was really good and the place is quiet suitable for a relaxed kinda vacay. Host was great in assisting you to get into the place.
The place is very quiet and far from society. It's great for a getaway. We had miles of beach to ourselves. Mary's food is amazing. There is a two hour trip needed to get there from the city, but max will hook it up with a cheap driver to get you there. It's definitely worth it!
Amazing. Really enjoyed my stay.
Erinomainen matkakohde niille, jotka haluavat omaa rauhaa. Majoituksen sijainnillinen eristyneisyys mahdollisti rauhallisen tunnelman ja rentouttavan lomakokemuksen. Majoituksen ruoat olivat myös erinomaiset.
It’s really been a fantastic stay for my family. What could even be better than having a private beautiful beach and watch sunset on your own balcony? We enjoyed the beach, sunset and peace so much. We even had a little adventure at the back forest where we fished and had a little jungle walk... BTW, we also like the food there, simple but tasty. Max is so nice. He will provide all the support whenever he can. We’d really like to come back again!
Beautiful location. Delicious, hearty food. Extremely kind, helpful, and interesting host. Much zen. Highly recommend.
Beachfront property with a very clean and quiet beach. Great place to just sit back and relax.
Airconditioned room is a better option as it can get very hot during the daytime
We went to Max’s place for 2 nights in February. As we arrived we were incredibly amazed by the seaview from the balcony of our chalet. Let me be clear: If you are looking for a luxury and comfortable stay, it might not be suitable for you. But if you are looking for an unforgetable experience far away from the city, a gorgeous long beach, a tasty homy food, a very friendly host, a cold shower with a seaview, a dark sky full of stars before to go to sleep (make sure you switch off all the lights, we even saw shooting stars!), the sound of the waves continously hitting your eardrums... then this is a place for you. Oh, by the way: bring mosquito repellant 😉
Everything was as expected, the place is by the beach (it was a little dirty but that's not Max's fault) and Max was very friendly and helpful.
We spent a wonderful week at Max‘s place! The beach is amazing, and the accommodation offers everything you need! Max and Mary and all the staff was wonderful and helping in any way! We will come back for sure!
Best beach I've ever been to. Amazing place. Very secluded.
Rustic off the beaten path with a private beach to boot! Be prepared to go back to basic and you’ll be enchanted by the rustic charm and the fantastic views!
Danke Max!
This is an exceptionally wonderful place to stay. Max is a great host who has helped us a lot by picking us up from the village and driving us to the airport for a small fee. He can also help if you want to do the dragonfly tour or a trip to the Survivor island. You can prepare breakfast for yourself and get warm food two times additionally. Mary the cook makes excellent food. I could say this was a highlight of our stay but there were only highlights. Make sure that you stay at least 3 nights to be able to enjoy the place and its energy.
